Science Your Life with the Huberman Lab

The famous quote of John F. Kennedy: “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country”, can be loosely translated to physiology science: “Ask not what you can do for science – ask what science can do for you. Some of these questions are answered in the Huberman Lab Podcast.

The What?

The Huberman Lab Podcast is a podcast by 47-year-old Stanford University neuroscientist professor Andrew Huberman. In this podcast, he and his interesting guests talk about various physiology topics and performance optimization in a clear, precise, and comprehensive way. These are available on Spotify and YouTube. A few interesting talks for active (para) medics in challenging environments:

Temperature and Performance
Extreme heat and extreme is an ongoing interest in the community of Wilderness Medicine. During our conferences in 2017 and 2020, notable speakers updated us on the latest developments in this field. Huberman has multiple episodes on this topic with dr. Craig Heller, dr. Susanna Søberg, and an explainer on Cold Exposure for Health and Performance.

Sleep
Sleep is a precious thing, especially for physicians during shift work and even so during ocean crossings, summit attempts, or humanitarian work. Despite all these challenges, how can you perfect your sleep, and how does sleep impact learning, memory, hormones, and emotions?

Science-Based Tools for Health
There is a wealth of information in the podcasts. The last recommendations are on health & performance. How do mindsets and beliefs shape our responses to stress, exercise, and even to the foods we eat? The Science & Art of Longevity, and how to optimize brain-body function and health.
